Hey everyone, I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts. TIA! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much pricey but now it's underrated.

Came here for school and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The nightlife is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Chicago about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..
