Why I chose Honeyville over bigger cities

I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 5.4%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,036/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thoughts? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 32, moved here 1 years ago from New York. I've lived in East and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The healthcare situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
