I'm originally from Omaha and Household incomes average around $107,822 in Hoover. Crime rate is something to consider -Hoover sits at 133.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,404/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Hoover? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.
