Pros and cons of Hotchkiss after 6 years

So, Military spouse here. Median household income is $58,125, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,147/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $265,500, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Low taxes
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
Should I be concerned? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I've lived in Highland for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The school system scene is solid

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Old Town area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.
