I'm a contractor and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Springfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- The school system scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.
