Housing market in Houston — is it worth buying?

Median home value here is around $253,400. Prices are reasonable compared to major metros. For those renting, typical rent is $1313.

Is now a good time to buy in Houston? Or better to keep renting?

Looking for opinions from both homeowners and renters.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Maple Heights and Cedar Hills are perfectly safe.

I'd add that the parks here are amazing for families. Otherwise spot on!

I work in finance and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 5 months.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 9/10.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is check out the local Facebook groups for neighborhood info. Makes a big difference.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

As someone who moved here from New York, I can confirm most of this. The friendliness of people surprised me the most.

Respectfully disagree about the cost of living assessment. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.

Don't sleep on Riverside. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Rent tip: look for places in January-February. Prices drop and there's more availability.
