I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.
I moved to River Oaks from San Diego about 9 years ago. Initially everything felt unfamiliar. But after settling in, I feel like {city} is becoming more expensive without getting better..
A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out River Oaks and Spring Branch for housing
- Get a car if you don't have one - transit is limited
- Try the farmers market on Saturday mornings
The biggest adjustment was housing. The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible.. Overall I'd give Houston a 7/10 for singles.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.
I've lived in Meyerland, Montrose, and currently in The Heights. Each one feels like a different city honestly.
Rent comparison:
- Meyerland: /mo for a 2-bed
- Montrose: about /mo
- The Heights: /mo but decent
The {industry} scene here is really picking up.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Houston really clicks. Good luck!

Born here, left for 10 years, came back. Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable.. The city has shifted a lot.

Born here, left for 10 years, came back. Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. The city has grown a lot.
