Working remotely from Houston — my experience
I've been working remotely from Houston for 13 years now. Here's my take:
The pace of life here is perfect for remote work. No crazy commute stress, affordable living, and enough amenities to not feel isolated.
Cost of living: pretty reasonable
Internet: Decent, getting better with new providers
Coworking spaces: Growing number of options
If you're looking for a place to WFH, Houston is worth considering.

As someone who moved here from Boston, I can confirm most of this. The job opportunities surprised me the most.

Check out the Oakwood area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

Don't sleep on Riverside. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Respectfully disagree about the safety concerns. In my experience, it really depends on your lifestyle.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

I'd add that healthcare options are better than most cities this size. Otherwise spot on!

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 7/10.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Maple Heights and University District are perfectly safe.

Rent tip: look for places in October-November. Prices drop and there's more availability.
