Pros and cons of Howland Center after 8 years

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $179,700 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,117 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 15 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
