What surprised you most about Huber Heights?

Hi all, I'm retired and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $76,551 in Huber Heights. With a population of 43,266, Huber Heights is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $161,900 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Huber Heights sits at 199.0 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Active local events
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Chain restaurants dominate
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I'm a contractor and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 40, moved here 1 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Oak Park and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The school system situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
