My partner and I are Rent is about $752/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $196,200 on average. It's a a small town city with about 3,777 people. You can expect to pay around $752 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What do you all think? The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good airport with direct flights
- The safety scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Riverside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a teacher, 53, moved here 6 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Sunset and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
