Hey folks, I work in consulting and The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Hunter sits at 637.8 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Hunter? Thanks for reading. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
