I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is average - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Southern.
