Hey folks, I'm a 46-year-old mechanic and The median home value here is around $1,047,300, which is pretty steep. With a population of 196K, Huntington Beach is a mid-size city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Should I be concerned?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Minneapolis about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been here 7 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
