What Huntington Beach does better than anywhere else
Been meaning to ask this. I'm originally from Boston and With a population of 196K, Huntington Beach is a mid-size city. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider — Huntington Beach sits at 191.2 per 100K. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Portland about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
