Day-to-day life in Huntington, NY

Hey folks, Crime rate is something to consider -Huntington sits at 22.0 per 100K. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $2,347/month for a decent place. Median household income is $162,066, which feels pretty solid for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Does this match your experience? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 26, moved here 7 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Greenfield and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cost of living situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
