Freelancing from Huntington Park -experience?

Hey folks, I work in construction and It's a a smaller city city with about 53,658 people. With a population of 53,658, Huntington Park is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,440 for rent here. Poverty rate is 15.5%, which is higher than I expected. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I wrong here? The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cost of living is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
