Moving to Huntington with kids -good idea?

Hi all, I'm single, late 30s, and You can expect to pay around $674 for rent here. With a population of 2,271, Huntington is a small town. The median home value here is around $192,700, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $79,091 in Huntington. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Highland) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in tech here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is excellent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
