OK so I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $863/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 17.4%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Huntington sits at 722.5 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 46,189 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Nashville about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely better than expected and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (East) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
