Moving to Huntington with kids -good idea?

Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Huntington sits at 722.5 per 100K. Household incomes average around $43,146 in Huntington. It's a a smaller city city with about 46,189 people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What are your go-to spots? Thanks for reading. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 11 years. Moved from Portland for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is decent - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Rising rent and home prices. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
