What's it really like living in Huntley?

Hello, Rent is about $1,385/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,385 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any help is appreciated. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 2 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

2. Can feel isolated
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Dallas it's challenging.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The outdoor recreation situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
