Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $263,100, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 10.2%, which is around average. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Charlotte about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
