Hey folks, I've been here for 6 years and The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $995 for rent here. Median household income is $73,429, which feels about average for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much competitive but now it's solid.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 11 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
