What I wish I knew before living in Hurricane

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,235 for rent here. Median household income is $67,424, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $411,400 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
Any advice would be great. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The weather is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 26, moved here 5 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Downtown and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Close to major attractions
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The housing market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
