What I wish I knew before living in Hurricane

Hello, You can expect to pay around $1,235 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cheers. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 13 years. Moved from Nashville for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Far from beaches/mountains. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in South for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- The pet-friendliness scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The housing market is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Downtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
