Hey, Military spouse here. Household incomes average around $67,083 in Hurricane. It's a a small town city with about 6,891 people. Rent is about $854/month for a decent place. Median household income is $67,083, which feels about average for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (East) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Highland area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The healthcare is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
