Anyone regret moving to Hurst?

Alright, The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think? Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Diego about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 49, moved here 5 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Pine Hills and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Property taxes are high
3. The housing market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Francisco about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (East) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in East for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..
