Curious what people think. Poverty rate is 9.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $933 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Worth the trade-offs? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Westside area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 4 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
