Is Hyattsville worth it salary-wise?

My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Hyattsville sits at 463.7 per 100K. Median household income is $94,231, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $463,500 on average. Rent is about $1,831/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 11 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in South for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The safety scene is solid

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
