Job market in Hyattsville for tech?

Hey everyone, I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $1,831/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $463,500 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Worth the trade-offs? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
