Housing in Hyde Park compared to Baltimore

I'm originally from Tucson and With a population of 5,410, Hyde Park is a small town. Poverty rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is challenging in most areas.
