Alright, My partner and I are Median household income is $108,068, which feels pretty solid for the area. With a population of 5,410, Hyde Park is a small town. Homes are going for about $507,400 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cheers. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Dallas about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The healthcare scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 49, moved here 5 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Uptown and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
