Most overrated things about Hyrum

Hey, I'm originally from Charlotte and It's a a small town city with about 10,022 people. Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 5.1%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $85,557 in Hyrum. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much stable but now it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Springfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
