Been meaning to ask this. Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $992 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Worth the trade-offs?

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Denver it's improving.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much wild but now it's average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
