Random thought, I'm single, late 30s, and Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What do you all think? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The food scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The safety is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Nashville about 2 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..
