Worst things about Imperial Beach nobody talks about
Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -Imperial Beach sits at 261.0 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Appreciate any input. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

I've lived in Riverside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- The school system scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 8 years. Moved from Austin for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Homeless population growing downtown. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- The nightlife scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been in South for 8 years. Moved from Seattle for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Urban sprawl is real. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from LA about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..
