Is Imperial getting better or worse?

Hey folks, I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $83,214, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $344,700 on average. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is decent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Dallas about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Old Town) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
