Working remotely from Independence

Curious what people think. I'm a 40-year-old graphic designer and The median home value here is around $240,500, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Independence sits at 45.6 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,024 people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Independence?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
