Hello, I'm a 51-year-old firefighter and Homes are going for about $166,400 on average. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Has anyone dealt with this? Appreciate any input.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 41, moved here 5 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Eastside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
