Hello, I'm a remote worker and With a population of 122K, Independence is a mid-size city. The median home value here is around $166,400, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $166,400 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,061 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much wild but now it's excellent.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
