The good and bad of living in Independence

Random thought, I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 55°F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $59,480 in Independence. You can expect to pay around $1,061 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Growing food scene
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Rising rent prices
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity

It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in South area are improving. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is average in most areas.
