Biggest downsides of living in Independence?

Rent is about $1,585/month for a decent place. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Should I be concerned?

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in North area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for family and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The cost of living is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Fairview for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- The dating scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..
