I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $152,600 on average. With a population of 1,477, Independence is a small town. Rent is about $856/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.
