What I wish I knew before living in Independent Hill

Curious what people think. Military spouse here. With a population of 10,217, Independent Hill is a small town. You can expect to pay around $2,063 for rent here. Rent is about $2,063/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 10,217 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thanks! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a pharmacist and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is solid and there's always something going on.
