Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. Crime rate is something to consider -Indianola sits at 708.4 per 100K. Rent is about $966/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. TIA! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Atlanta it's tough.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 15 years. Moved from San Francisco for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Urban sprawl is real. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Minneapolis about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.
