Considering Iowa City vs Raleigh -help me decide

I'm a 52-year-old sales rep and You can expect to pay around $1,094 for rent here. Household incomes average around $57,533 in Iowa City. Poverty rate is 7.8%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 75,264 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I wrong here? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I work in healthcare here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is challenging. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 30, moved here 2 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Cedar Grove and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The traffic situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
