First time home buyer in Iowa City

I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 7.8%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $273,600, which seems about average. The city has invested a lot in new development. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Old Town for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The weather scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..
