First post here. I'm a college student here and Rent is about $945/month for a decent place. Median household income is $64,340, which feels about average for the area. It's a a small town city with about 6,574 people. Homes are going for about $121,800 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I've lived in East for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
- The healthcare scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
