Is Irmo getting better or worse?

Hey folks, Military spouse here. Rent is about $1,412/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 6.1%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,412 for rent here. Household incomes average around $85,137 in Irmo. The median home value here is around $193,100, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Homelessness issues downtown
Is this normal for Irmo? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 12 years. Moved from San Francisco for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Dating scene is rough. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Westside for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options
- The healthcare scene is decent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 1 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
