Is Irondequoit getting better or worse?

Hello, It's a a smaller city city with about 50,438 people. Median household income is $76,871, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,110 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a software engineer and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a chef and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 4 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
